January 17, 2012 Happy New Year!

Hello All and Happy New Year! Can you believe it..here we are in the year 2012 and guess what? We are still finding that the majority of string/orchestra competitions do not include the double bass. How could this be?? Well, there's good news. We are continuously working on exciting initiatives and events and one of them is the next Bradetich International Double Bass Solo Competition, which will take place in 2014.  Details of the competition will  be announced in the Fall on this year to give everyone plenty of time to prepare. Stay Tuned!

Artem Chirkov New York Debut

Artem Chirkov gave his New York debut on December 10th in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall as winner of the inaugural Bradetich Foundation International Solo Competition. He presented a program of incredible breadth, ranging from Sperger to Proto with much Russian music in between. Mr. Chirkov plays with a mature artistry, focusing on long sustained lines with an infinite variety of col ors. His playing is bold and heartfelt in the grand tradition of Russian string playing yet he is capable of conjuring the most intimate of expressions that reflect an inner spirit of joy and playfulness.

performance and masterclass.

He concluded the program with charm and panache as he performed an encore of "Walkin Broadway". He was accompanied by his pianist/wife Mavzhida Gimaletdinova who is a refined and sensitive artist in her own right.

Prior to the New York debut at Weill Recital Hall, Artem and once again accompanied by his lovely wife, Mavzhida gave a fantastic Master Class at David Gage String Instruments. Students and double bass lovers drove in from as far as Philly to participate in the class and listen to Artem as he taught his beautiful knowledge of the double bass. We want to thank David and Judy Gage for hosting this wonderful event.

Together, the Chirkov's CD Reminiscences of the 20th Century was released at their New York debut concert. The CD was part of their Gold Medal prize at the Bradetich Foundation Competition and includes many of the compositions performed at their New York debut including works by:

Glazunov, Gadjos, Rachmaninoff, Petrov, Proto, Piazzolla, Shostakovich, and Rabbath. A bonus track of two movements of the Proto Sonata 1963 with improvised drum set and vibraphone is included.

About the Bradetich Foundation

The Bradetich Foundation was established in 2008 with the sole purpose of advancing the performing, teaching and knowledge of the double bass. It represents the vision of founder Jeff Bradetich and the culmination of his 30 years of service to the profession.

The Foundation is dedicated to identifying the top performers in the world and helping to develop their careers through major competitions, debut concerts in New York and London, CD recordings and concert tours.

The educational outreach of the Foundation is a cornerstone of its work. Through instructional and performance DVD’s, concerts for children and older adults, and the promotion of the instrument through traditional and non-traditional media, the Foundation will work to raise the standard of the double bass and improve its standing in the general public.

The Bradetich Foundation will continue to establish and promote workshops and conferences throughout the world, bringing together the top minds in the field to share their artistry, philosophies and experience to the next generation of bass players.

Thank you for visiting our website and supporting the love and passion for music. The double bass makes the world a better place.
